The European Commission published the Communication “Advanced Materials for Industrial Leadership” on 27 February 2024. The overall objective of this Communication is to establish a dynamic, secure and inclusive materials ecosystem in Europe. One challenge the Communication describes, is the absence of a joint and coordinated strategy among member states, as public resources on R&I in advanced materials are fragmented and do not sufficiently strengthen EU competitiveness and innovation capacity in the twin transition and for EU resilience. In order to address this challenge InnoMatSyn will provide an interconnected materials ecosystem, AI-based knowledge repository, technology leakage risk assessment, and support for joint funding calls among member states.

As of the launch of the project, InnoMatSyn has received a great deal of support from stakeholders from all over Europe.

InnoMatSyn has set the following objectives:

  • Synergetic connecting of regional, national and European (funding) initiatives (e.g.: s3, ERA.NETs, national funding bodies, partnerships, EITs, etc.) in the field of “Advanced/Innovative Materials”
  • Development of technology leakage risks assessment guidelines and implementation support for member states
  • Development of knowledge about competences, projects (calls, results), publications, Materials Commons, etc., and knowledge transfer
  • Development of a sustainable European Research-, Development- and Innovation-Ecosystem in the field of Advanced/Innovative Materials

Furthermore, InnoMatSyn will engage with all stakeholder groups including citizens, to gain awareness and attention to the potential of innovative materials. Emphasis will be put on the empowerment by co-creation of skills, supporting and in collaboration with the Advanced Materials Academy, and related partnerships e.g. IAM4EU, “AI, Data and Robotics”.

The consortium comprises relevant representatives in the field of 2D-materials and advanced/innovative materials as beneficiaries. Fourteen partners from 10 countries form the project team, contributing well-balanced expertise concerning community building & networking, technology leakage risks assessment, standardization & governance, funding, smart specialisation, stakeholder engagement, IT/AI-knowhow, technology infrastructures, and strategy development.

The website will be launched in June 2025. Follow InnoMatSyn on LinkedIn to become part of the community and stay up-to-date about InnoMatSyn activities and achievements for the AdMa-ecosystem in Europe!
