Fostering Collaboration in Innovative Advanced Materials

InnoMatSyn is based on a collaborative movement to strengthen Europe’s global leadership in materials science.
We recognise that stakeholders—from funding agencies to societal actors—are critical to success. By joining our ecosystem, you contribute to a transparent, co-created strategy that aligns research and industry with societal needs, promotes safe and sustainable design advanced materials, and ensures that European innovation remains competitive and secure. Together, we are transforming a fragmented landscape into a resilient innovation engine.

Stakeholder Benefits

Why Stakeholder Liaison Matters

Stakeholder liaison activities create stronger connections between research, industry, policy makers, and innovation ecosystems across Europe.

Connect Ecosystems

Bringing together stakeholders, networks, and initiatives to create a more coordinated and connected innovation landscape.

Accelerate Innovation

Supporting knowledge exchange and collaboration that helps innovative advanced materials move faster from research to real-world impact.

Strengthen Collaboration

Encouraging long-term partnerships between academia, industry, policy actors, and ecosystem communities.

Collaboration Goals

Through active liaisons,
we:

Europe currently faces a fragmented R&I landscape where a lack of a coordinated strategy among regions, Member States, and the EU leads to a duplication of efforts and inefficient use of public resources. Active liaisons are necessary to align national and regional R&I agendas with European priorities, ensuring that different funding bodies work synergistically rather than in isolation.

The project emphasizes the use of co-creation methodologies from the outset to involve funding agencies and other key actors directly in the development of results. This approach is vital to:

  • Foster a sense of ownership among stakeholders, making them more likely to adopt new methods and practices.
  • Build trust and alignment by ensuring that the project's outputs, such as joint calls for proposals, reflect the actual priorities, needs, and perspectives of those who will implement them.
  • Mitigate the risk of resistance from industries or regions to adopting new collaborative practices.

Liaising with industry, particularly SMEs and materials end-users, is essential for accelerating the development and commercialization of innovative materials. These connections ensure that research funding supports R&D&I that meets real market needs and that groundbreaking research is effectively translated into direct industrial applications.

InnoMatSyn identifies stakeholder engagement as the primary pathway to the long-term sustainability of its tools, such as the AI-Dynamic Repository (AI-DR) and outcomes. By engaging with companies and authorities early on to understand their requirements and provide the best solutions.

Effective liaisons with Member States and relevant experts are crucial for the development of a technology leakage risk assessment strategy. Protecting sensitive European innovations requires a bidirectional exchange of information and a common understanding of risks to ensure that Europe's competitive edge and technological sovereignty are maintained.

Beyond technical and economic actors, InnoMatSyn stresses the importance of engaging with societal actors and citizens. These liaisons help align R&I activities with societal needs and values, promoting transparent resource allocation and demonstrating the public value of scientific investments to European taxpayers.
